Towards a generic cure-all placebo (I)

The magnets worked not by affecting diseased tissue, but by affecting the general circulation of the vital fluid. This is an important step. It locates efficacy not in contact with local diseased tissue, but with the vital fluid—a fluid that will ultimately identify with consciousness.

I’m not treating this wound here directly. I’m going to give a boost to your invisible spirit fluid instead.

This seems to me to be something like an Archetypal Generic Placebo. Instead of treating this or that particular problem, you provide a general therapy which cures all things, even though the patient’s complaint is particular. Instead of saying that this or that body-part is being treated, the therapist says that general health fluid has been restored and its flow-channels have been reamed.

Well, in case you’re interested, I just added a gallon of happy juice to your tank. Yeah, it’s actually in there. No, I’m not trying to make you feel better, I’m just reporting on an objective fact that I can see right here and what I’m looking at is the fact that your tank dial is on the F. So now you know why your sickness will be gone soon.

It’s placebo.

It’s verbal placebo.

It’s verbal placebo cure-all.

You are, in every way, getting better.
